Your brain waves are in alpha state and you’re more impressionable to adverse news that can change your whole day for the worse. Instead, think of a couple of people and things you are grateful for. This will realign your mind and body to be in sync and set a positive tone for the whole day. When reading around a topic you may naturally link it to other things you are learning and make connections which helps to solidify your learning further. This concept of mixing similar topics is know as interleaving and helps your memory make links between topics and form deeper connections. To ensure your newly absorbed knowledge doesn’t evaporate from your memory, schedule revisions and relearning into your diary.
You could teach someone else the material, ask someone to test you, produce a mind map or even create a song to help you remember the key concepts. Teaching is also fun and rewarding and provides you with feedback on whether you truly understand what you have learned as learners will ask questions. Whatever you are learning should be challenging enough to keep you interested but not so difficult that you get stuck.

But you don’t just have to use images—the more of the five senses you can use, the easier it will be for you to recall information. Rather than just visualizing an image, try to smell, feel, and hear the image as well. For example, if you are trying to remember that the capital of Louisiana is Baton Rouge, draw up an image of a girl named Louise carrying a red baton. Sure, we humans have become experts at communicating without opening our mouths – thanks Whatsapp! – but when push comes to shove, it’s true that speaking a language helps it stick in your head far better than only reading or writing it.
Since you’ve given your brain some time to relax, it’ll be easier for you to pick up on the information. Combine letters and nonsense sentences to remember complex topics. If you have to memorize a list of information or a more abstract concept, abbreviate the first letter of each item.
